Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors¡¯ sales of their hybrid cars hit a record high in the US market where fuel efficient and environment-friendly hybrid cars have become widely available.
Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors achieved the best ever sales performance in the US with their May sales of two hybrid models of the ¡®Sonata¡¯ and ¡®K5¡¯ reaching 2,129 and 1,206units, each, according to sources in the industry.
The number is 44 percent up from 2,315 units in May last year and surpassed 3,000units for three consecutive months since
last March.
The two carmakers successfully rooted in two years in the US hybrid car market as their cumulative sales of the two models until May reached 14,234 units(Sonata Hybrid 8,677units and K5 Hybrid 5,557units), up 30.7percent from the same period a year ago.
Hybrid car sales markedly grew 62.5 percent from a year ago to 440,000units in the US market as the reasonable consumption trend is spreading amid economic recession and higher oil prices.
The sales feat of the South Korea-based two carmakers is notable considering it came from the US market where Toyota has been solidifying its presence through discount promotion and expansion of line-ups.
