STX Metal’s engine components business consists of a material manufacturing division, an engine block
manufacturing division, an engine module components line, and a small-sized engine assembling division.
Foundry
The casting division of STX Metal serves as a firm foundation for STX Group, which consists of vertically
aligned affiliates ranging from components and shipbuilding to marine transportation.
The company’s technical mastery and know-how in casting is highly sought after by clients in the global market.
With the establishment of a vacuum investment casting line for manufacturing advanced components,
it is further enhancing its professionalism in casting.
Turbo Charger
Since its inception in 1987, Korean-made turbo chargers for ship engines have maintained
their position as a market leader in the world: this product was awarded the World Class Product
distinction by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in 2005.
The company has strengthened its market-leading position by increasing its manufacturing capacity by
130% annually, thereby reaching its current level of 5,000 turbochargers a year.
With the completion of the Daegu plant in November 2009, the company is expanding its manufacturing
facilities to lead the global market in the future. It will also continue to engage in research and development
in order to secure the company’s growth engines in the future.
Cyinder Liner
The cylinder liner plays a pivotal role in ensuring a piston’s reciprocating motion. Along with the piston ring,
it adjusts the pressure of injected fuel, creates a specified amount of oil film, and radiates the heat generated in the
combustion stoke.
It is a key component of an internal-combustion engine. With its leading market share and product quality,
the cylinder liner produced by STX Metal was selected as a World Class Product in 2007.
Crankshaft - 4 Stoke Crankshaft
The crankshaft is an essential component of an engine, installed inside the crankcase.
It converts piston motion from the explosion stroke into rotation, and transmits the rotation of the engine outwards.
It plays a pivotal role in transmitting the motion to pistons in the stroke of intake, compression, and explosion.
The crankshaft produced by STX Metal was selected as a World Class Product in 2006, showing that the
company’s technical expertise is receiving high recognition.
Crankshaft - 2 Stroke Crankshaft
With the construction of the Sinchon crankshaft plant in May 2007, STX Metal established the foundation for
becoming a leading diesel engine manufacturer in the global market. In order to achieve this, the company is
self-supplying large-sized crankshafts, increasing global orders, expanding its research and development,
and enhancing its competitiveness.
Furthermore, it is supporting STX Group’s Dalian shipyard in order to maintain a stable supply.
In August 2009, STX Metal succeeded in manufacturing a wide variety of crankshafts ranging from
small-sized to supersized.
Facing the global market trend of larger and higher value-added crankshafts, the company has itself
equipped with a unique competitiveness in the world.
In December 2009, STX Metal’s crankshaft was selected as a World Class Product, which shows that its
technical prowess has been highly rated on a global level.
Cargo Oil Pump System
The company is also engaged in installing customized pumps in each tank, enabling one vessel to load and
discharge different types of refined oils and chemical products.
The system mainly consists of core components such as a pump, pipe stack, HPU, and control system,
and hydraulic piping system. Based on the company’s unique and professional technologies, the system is
designed, manufactured and supplied as an entire package to achieve customer satisfaction.
In August 2010, the company has established a technical partnership with Pres-vac, a Danish company
specializing in shipbuilding machines and materials, to develop an electrically driven submerged cargo pump.
Along with a hydraulic submerged cargo pump independently developed by the company in 2009, STX Metal
has further expanded its business scope.
The company is committed to working toward increasing its global market share to 20% or more by this year.
