KIMES 2011 Drives Growth of Korea¡¯s Medical Industry
Korea has a large, diverse, and vibrant medical-device manufacturing industry which has boomed with the rapid growth
of the country¡¯s economy in the past two decades or so. The large scale of the medical industry has been very much in
evidence at KIMES (Korea International Medical and Hospital Equipment Show). The show has fulfilled high expectations
with the newest medical products. To present visitors the opportunity of experiencing various and latest medical trends,
the 27th KIMES, will be held at COEX in Seoul on March 17-20, with hundreds of manufacturers showcasing their products.
The show has grown considerably over the past several years and provides a platform not only for the local medical
products market but also those of neighboring countries.
According to a report written by a researcher called ¡°Espicom,¡± the medical market in Korea is estimated to be growing
11.2% per year and Korea is ranked at 17th in the world.
Moreover, the volume of the local market would be increasing up to US$3.56 billion by 2014 and it is believed that the Korea
medical industry could become another key market in Korea within a few years.
Therefore, the medical industry is one of the leading industries that could drive the Korea economy in the future.
To stimulate this growth the government has provided a blueprint for political and financial support of the industry.
KIMES has received strong support from various government bodies, including the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Ministry
of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Korea Food & Drug Administration.
The unique Korean medical show will be showing the direction for the future medical technology through well over than 1,026
companies from 32 countries in 36,007 sqm of its exhibition space. A projected 60,000 visitors will also be obtaining
information on all the current and future trends at Northeast Asia¡¯s premier medical event. As the organizer of KIMES 2011
launched an extensive and diverse marketing campaign designed to position the exhibition as the ¡®must see¡¯ event in 2011,
it promises to offer valuable business opportunities for anyone working in the medical industry.
Emphasis will be put on ensuring that there is a balance between the different exhibition categories, as KIMES is a total
healthcare related show. While it is important to include innovative new technologies, involving digitalization and sonalization,
