Bokumjari Co., a specialist in fruit jams and fruit tea products, began producing strawberry and grape jams in the early 1980s, when these products were still unfamiliar in Korea. Today the firm makes nine kinds of jam (strawberry, grape, apple, plum, peach, orange, apricot, maesil, and zucchini) and 10 different teas, including citron, apricot, omija, bokboonja, quince, honey apricot, grape juice, ginseng, gamro, and maesil.
As its fruit jams and teas — all made from fruits grown in Korea — start to get noticed for their reliable quality and flavor, they are being distributed through more outlets, including discount stores, department stores, and bakeries nationwide, while also being exported to Japan and Hong Kong. Its chief export items include Bokumjari citron tea, which is a smooth mixture of citron flesh and sugar.
Notably, the sliced pear is added to reduce the characteristic bitterness of citron and provides flavor. Citron has three times as much vitamin C as lemon. Regularly drinking the citron tea helps people overcome fatigue, prevents influenza, protects capillaries, accelerates digestion, and has anti-cancer effects.
