Digital convergence is a key technology widely applied to various fields, creating a new paradigm with its new products and services. In particular, the convergence of thedigital and broadcasting/sound/lighting industries is expanding into the integral industry covering diverse fields ranging from mobile, IT, medical, film, game, tourism and animation to education, drawing keen attention as a future growth engine. For this reason, industry, academy and R&D are jointly striving to expand the size of the domestic market and are figuring out new ways to raise their profile in the global market as well. Against this backdrop, the KOBA show has continually grown together with the Korean broadcasting, audio and lighting equipment industry, attracting a rising number of participants and new products of the related sectors. KOBA 2013 will be bigger in scale than any of the previous years, with the participation of a total of 830 companies from 35 countries, including 170 Korean companies, as well as those from the U.S.A., Germany, the UK, Japan, China, Taiwan, France and other countries, featuring cutting-edge technologies and equipment. And about 50,000 people are expected to visit, exhibition organizers said. As new media such as smart TV, mobile TV and OTT emerge, new demands on personal media and mobilization are generated, and accordingly, the partnership and alliances between enterprises from various fields are set to increase. In particular, the emergence of smart media has created a new communication service with TTL (Targeting, Timing and Location) characteristics, thus supplying programs and broadcasting contents in all genres including news, culture, drama and entertainment anywhere and anytime. Also, smart media is expected to play a role of spreading new media as an interactive multimedia service that communicates customized services to contents consumers in real-time, and a role of proper means to provide convergent-multiplex contents. The transition from analogue to digital broadcasting and new contents innovation including 3D and super-highdefinition broadcasting is going to create new media environment as well. As a business communication platform in this new media era, KOBA 2013 will surely provide a venue for exchanging advanced technology and expertise through exhibition, international broadcasting conference and sound/lighting seminar for various networks including B2B, B2C, C2C and B2G.
