Many of South Korea¡¯s consumer electronics enterprises have dominantly exerted their leadership in last month¡¯s CES2012.
Amidst the overwhelming presence of Korea¡¯s two local electronics giants, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, a small number of Korean small and medium-sized businesses are making the best of promotional opportunities at the show, grabbing more attention than ever.
Among them, Yujin Robot presented an intelligent household cleaning robot dubbed ¡°iclebo Smart¡± that automatically generates a map of the user¡¯s home by continuously taking photos of the ceiling and the walls while it cleans. With the generated map, it thus can discern what parts of the user¡¯s home have not yet been cleaned and when it has done the job.
The iclebo Smart can avoid collisions with things located in the home and avoid dangerous situations, with its over twenty detection sensors. What¡¯s more, it can also switch between modes that allow it to avoid (mopping mode) or climb (climbing mode) carpets/rugs up to 13mm in height.
The two local global consumer electronics leaders, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, were clearly the main players who competitively presented organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs equipped with innovatively upgraded display technology. The OLED TVs feature vivid and life-like colors in their displays and showed their potential to become the next-generation TVs after LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TVs.
The former has successfully introduced and promoted 55-inch super OLED TVs at the CES show, making itself a front-runner in the race for innovative display technology among global leading players and thus definitely leaving other competitors out of the race, including Japanese makers. The 55-inch OLED TV is the largest OLED TV model in size that has ever been introduced to the public.
The latter also played a leading role in strategically unveiling its 55-inch OLED TVs in an endeavor to chase the local electronics rival and become the global leader in the field. The two Korean tech giants are planning to launch OLED TVs within this year. LGD will mass-produce 55-inch OLED TVs starting from the second quarter (Q2) this year to supply the TVs to LG Electronics.
Samsung and LG will set the prices of their 55-inch OLED TVs below 10 million won ($8,642.15). The global OLED TV market will expand to 100,000 units in volume this year, and it is expected to record annual average growth of 283 percent by 2014, according to market researcher DisplaySearch.
