Hamcho (halophyte plant) Drawing Strong Interest as a Health Food

HC Biotech Co., Ltd. (CEO Yoon Byung-jae) specializes in developing and manufacturing dietary supplements made by using Hamcho, a kind of halophyte (salt tolerant plant), which grows naturally, absorbing salty minerals in salt fields or on muddy seashores along Korea¡¯s south and west coastline.

Korea¡¯s native salt plant used to be treated simply as a nuisance and removed by salt farmers, but this is not the case anymore. As Hamcho is now known to be rich in nutritional value, it is being increasingly wide applied as an ingredient for making health products.

Hamcho¡¯s well-known health benefits are surprisingly varied. It is particularly gaining popularity as a diet food because its cellulose (dietary fiber), amino acid, enzyme and 40 minerals help relieve constipation by facilitating the intestine¡¯s activity, resulting in weight-loss effects as well.

In addition, Hamcho is effective in controlling hypertension & hypotension and the blood sugar. And the herb also has anti-inflammation effect and chronic fatigue relief.

Taking advantage of the salt plant with various health benefits, HC Biotech Co., Ltd. puts much focus on
developing many different types of Hamcho products - powder, pills, sauce, salt, beverage and skin-care products, tailored to the various needs of consumers.

Notably, based on its certified chemical-free farming method, HC Biotech is the first Korean company to export the Hamcho products to Japan, acquiring JAS (Japanese organic farming certificate), the U.S. FDA approval and ISO9001/14001 certification. Among its main items, Hamcho pills and Hamcho salt are the most popular products.

The Hamcho pill is manufactured with home-grown glasswort cultivated under environment-friendly conditions and Hamcho which was grown with the certified free farming method and was harvested at the season having maximum minerals and dietary fiber. After being harvested, the plant goes through a five-step cleansing process, and is dried below 50¡ÆC. Finally, it is
ground into a fine powder and mixed with glutinous rice paste to make pill type products.

Furthermore, the company¡¯s popular Hamcho salt includes Korean solar salt 80% and organically farmed Hamcho 20%, thus bringing out delicious flavor in cooking dishes without need to add other seasonings.

In addition to these Hamcho products, HC Biotech provides diverse dietary supplements such as hangover drink, drink for diabetics, herbal medicinal drink with pear extract, seaweed drink, curry pills and so forth by using medicinal herbs to cope with the growing demand for safe and healthful foods.

HC Biotech operates a 12,350-square-foot medicinal herbs processing plant in clean and green land in Jangheong county, in the southern part of Korean peninsula, making constant and intensive R&D endeavors through the industry-university-institute collaboration.
